Adapted by author Anne Rice herself, from her best-selling book. I don’t consider director Jordan quite good enough or Cruise convincing enough to truly pull it off, however. Pitt, as Louis, fits his role well, at least more so than Cruise as Lestat. Its star billing made it the biggest money-making vampire film to date, probably because of its “hunk” appeal to lonely women.

Marvelous production values abound, however, and I found the Paris Theatre des vampires and the underground crypts wonderfully spooky.

A few poor changes from the book and a few impossibly bad shots that somehow made it in the film hurt its ability to convince. One shot on an otherwise cool scene with Stephen Rea walking upside down under a bridge is shaky enough to destroy any sense of “suspension of disbelief”. It looks like the camera was being held by a thin balsa wood tripod while the set rotated.

Some of the best parts of the book are left in the trash bin of possible cinema.

Shame.

Not much is known about this French film. The term vampire refers to a criminal's use of drugs to weaken opponents. No known prints survive. Considered "lost".

A trilogy of 3 good-to-decent takes on the vampire mythos. Released direct to video, however a minor step up from the usual DTV fare.

"Spawn of Hell" is about the vampire Radu Vladislas, a name used in the SUBSPECIES flicks. This episode includes some very bad phlebotomy, yet is quite decent overall.

"From the Grave" features a character named Vicky who is fine as fuck (though I'm not certain which actress it is), and the segment has nice-touch humorous elements for those who are skeptically minded. Also uses the vamp mirror reflection problem as its only minor flaw.

"Undead Evil" is the least worthy, but still a decent flick, despite its abrupt and unfulfilling ending. Musical elements are a direct rip from PHANTASM.
